About Our Kennels
My name is Marci Ward-Kubik, owner of Lynn Kay Kennels, home of the Dry Mouth Newfoundland, located in the beautiful countryside near Davison, Michigan.
Lynn Kay Kennels was founded by my mother, Linda Ward, who dedicated more than 45 years to breeding and raising exceptional Newfoundland dogs. Although she is now retired, she still enjoys helping with puppies and breeding decisions whenever I need an extra hand. Today, I proudly continue the kennel she built, carrying on the same values, bloodlines, and commitment to producing healthy, loving Newfoundlands that families have come to know and trust.
Newfoundlands have been a part of our family’s life for decades. They aren’t just the dogs we raise—they’re our family. Over the years, we’ve been blessed with countless happy memories, lifelong friendships, and the opportunity to place our puppies with wonderful families across the United States.
Our goal has always been to raise healthy, high-quality Newfoundland puppies with outstanding temperaments. We carefully plan each breeding with health, structure, and personality in mind, and we take great pride in every puppy that is born here.
From the day they arrive, our puppies are treated like members of our family. They are held, cuddled, talked to, and loved every single day. We spend countless hours socializing them so they are confident, affectionate, and well-adjusted before they ever leave for their new homes. It’s impossible not to fall in love with every litter, and even after all these years, I still look forward to each new generation of puppies.
Before going home, every puppy is examined by our licensed veterinarian to ensure they are healthy and ready for pickup or shipping. I want every family to feel confident knowing they’ve welcomed a happy, healthy Lynn Kay Kennels puppy into their home.

Our Colors
At Lynn Kay Kennels, our Newfoundlands come in Black, Brown, Landseer (Black & White), and a variety of Black & White markings. As you explore our website, you’ll see all of these beautiful colors represented by the dogs we’ve proudly owned, as well as many of the puppies we’ve placed with families over the years.
While every puppy is unique, our bloodlines are known for producing the qualities we’ve worked hard to preserve for more than 45 years—dry mouths, tight eyes, large blocky heads, and beautiful wrinkled expressions, along with the gentle temperament that makes the Newfoundland such an incredible family companion.
One of the questions we’re asked most often is about our Dry Mouth Newfoundlands. Some people will tell you there is no such thing, but that’s usually because they’ve never owned one or seen one in person. We invite you to visit Lynn Kay Kennels and see the difference for yourself. While no Newfoundland is completely drool-free, our dogs produce significantly less drool than a traditional Newfoundland, something our puppy families appreciate every day.

Today, Newfoundlands remain a true family tradition. While my mother founded Lynn Kay Kennels and has since retired, she still enjoys helping with puppies and breeding decisions from time to time. Our love for this incredible breed has been passed down through generations, and many members of our family continue to share that passion by owning and raising Newfoundlands of their own.
We have a wonderful selection of males and females, allowing us to carefully plan each breeding with health, temperament, structure, and longevity in mind. Every litter is thoughtfully planned with the goal of producing exceptional companions for families across the United States and Canada.

Is a Newfoundland the Right Dog for You?
One of the first things people notice about a Newfoundland is their impressive size, but it’s their sweet temperament and gentle nature that truly capture your heart. Often called a Newfie, Newf, or simply a Newfoundland, these beautiful dogs are part of the Working Group and have earned the nickname “Gentle Giants.”
Newfoundlands are loving, loyal family companions that are wonderful with children. They thrive on being with their people and are happiest when included in everyday family life. Whether they’re playing in the backyard, splashing in the water, or simply lying at your feet, they enjoy being wherever their family is.
Despite their large size, Newfoundlands are highly intelligent, eager to please, and very trainable. They respond best to calm, consistent training using praise and positive reinforcement. Because they are sensitive by nature, harsh corrections or raised voices are rarely effective. Their desire to make their family happy is one of the reasons they are such a pleasure to own.
Although they appreciate having room to stretch out, Newfoundlands can adapt to many living situations, including apartment living, provided they receive regular walks, exercise, and plenty of attention. Larger homes with fenced yards certainly give them more room to roam, but what matters most is being with the people they love.
Our puppies have gone to families throughout the United States and Canada and have adapted well to a wide variety of climates. Like all dogs, they appreciate extra care during hot weather. During the summer months, we often trim our dogs’ coats shorter to help keep them comfortable in the heat.
Grooming & Coat Care
Newfoundlands have a beautiful double coat consisting of a dense, water-resistant undercoat and a coarse outer coat designed to protect them from the elements.
Our dogs typically shed heavily once each year as the seasons change, although some may shed twice a year. Weekly brushing helps remove loose hair, prevents mats, and keeps their coat looking healthy and beautiful. Baths are usually only needed occasionally, especially after swimming or a muddy adventure.
Routine Care
Like every breed, Newfoundlands require regular routine care to keep them healthy.
Their nails should be trimmed regularly to prevent discomfort when walking. Their ears should be checked weekly since moisture and debris can become trapped and lead to infections. We typically clean our dogs’ ears with peroxide or alcohol wipes when needed to help keep them clean and dry.
Dental care is just as important. Brushing your dog’s teeth with a canine toothpaste or using veterinarian-recommended dental chews can help prevent dental disease and keep their mouth healthy.
One of the best things you can do as your puppy grows is to regularly handle their paws, ears, mouth, and nails. Beginning these routines early helps grooming become a positive experience throughout their life and creates another wonderful opportunity to strengthen the bond between you and your Newfoundland.
